As citizens age, the ERMs used to control emotions stop working, so they are moved to a "senior center," where they are hidden from society. Under the watchful eyes of his government-employed father, dutiful mother and an ever-present surveillance society, Ethan, a dedicated and selfless young man must complete the task, and test, of moving Oliver Hildebrand to a senior center before Ethan can take his place in society.
